The
Charlotte Harbor area is a mecca for those who like to fish. For those
who like to fish the flats, you have the whole harbor, bordered by mangroves
where snook and redfish love to hide.
For offshore there is the Gulf of Mexico to catch a myriad of fish such as
mackerel, shark, and grouper. From May through October, Boca Grande Pass is
filled with boats, large and small, hoping for a hit.
Tarpon is a game fish and "catch and release" technique is the norm. They
can be seen actively rolling even from the beaches. Even if you're not
fishing, it's quite exciting watching the tarpon jump repeatedly and
frantically fighting against the line.
The mangroves thickets are home for snook, snapper, sheepshead and other
varieties of fish. Anglers usually drift quietly along the flats in shallow
draft boats where the fish are feeding.
***A saltwater/freshwater fishing license is required by the state.***
